Killing bacteria in water?
This thread is closed??? http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=355796
Well since I took the time to type a response you all are just going to have to read it... :tongue_ma: You can also disinfect your water with Tinture of Iodine 2%. Use 5 drops per quart for clear water, and 10 drops for turbid water. Shake and let stand for 30 minutes. I have used this method backpack hunting. A 1 oz bottle goes a long way. Put a bottle or two in your BOP/Survival kit By the way you only need 1/3 cup of chlorine bleach per 1000 gallons of water. |

If you are in a static location, inline UV is pretty slick.
I grabbed this at random off the net.......... http://www.equinox-products.com/InlineUV.htm But it is typical of what is out there these days. scyth |

Use chlorine to sterilize water. Let water stand until particles in the water settle. Pour off the clear water into a clean, uncontaminated container. Add two drops of Clorox bleach for each quart of water, eight drops of Clorox bleach for each gallon of water or tsp of regular Clorox bleach per 5 gallons of water. If the water is visibly cloudy, double the amount of Clorox.
or Water can also be sterilized with unscented household bleach. A 4 litre container will require 4 drops of bleach. New, opaque heavy plastic container, with screw caps or clearly marked empty bleach bottles make good storage containers. The suggested amounts of bleach vary. But be aware that the ability of bleach to sterlize water dissipates with time. So the bleach should be unopened and replaced with a new bottle every so often. I think they recommend every 6 months. As stated above buy unscented bleach with no additives. |

How about dry chlorine powder, like you use in swimming pools. How long will it keep?
